They hear each other. When someone speaks Spanish, the other person hears a natural English voice a moment later, and the reverse. Captions are there as a companion for anyone who wants to read along, but the spoken translation is the point.

Our design target is under a second from the end of a phrase to the start of the translated voice on a good connection. Actual delay depends on network quality and how long a phrase is. We will publish measured figures before general availability.

Yes. Each listener can blend the original voice quietly underneath the translation, or switch translation off entirely. Many bilingual participants like to keep a little of the original for tone.

Audio is encrypted in transit and processed to produce the translation. By default it is not stored once the meeting ends. Recordings and transcripts only exist if the host turns them on, and everyone in the meeting is told when that happens.

It can make everyday conversations in clinics, universities and offices much easier. For consent, diagnosis or legal proceedings where a certified interpreter is required, Lalinde supports that interpreter rather than replacing them: they can join the call and take over the voice channel.
